Last Clinic day

Well today was the last clinic day for this semester whoooo! Wow, I can hardly believe that its over.  I thought it would never end and now that its here I cant believe its the end already.  We had the last clinic test today which I took and am happy to have that over with.  I am so amazed at all the stuff I have learned this semester.  Some of it I look back and think wow that was so long ago.  Now comes the time to stress over next semester.  I am already stressin about patients and where I am going to find them all.  Well cheers to the next semester and having finished this one (almost).

Wednesday

Well I have been operator all week.  It has been such a good experience.  I got to scaling today and scaled all quads. Karlie was my patient and she was really awesome.  I really appreciated her feedback.  If I was doing something wrong she had no problem telling me.  It was good to get in the mouth and really see what I am doing.  I need to get a better sequence going though.  I think this will come with time though.  The charting is really confusing there is so much to remember and I forget.  Next week I am the patient so I get to watch and observe and really have some things sink in.  This week I was a little nervous but I am so happy for the experience.  It was so helpful.

Wednesday

Today was the wonderful air powder polisher PE pass off.  Man I love that thing. Ha! Ha!  I totally sucked at it.  I couldnt get the pedal pushed down all the way and I got water all over Marianne.  I felt real bad and told her so.  Thank goodness she is so sweet.   We had a real awesome pod rap and Marilyn is amazing.  She carved us all teeth.  I dont know how she finds the time to do all she does.  Well I got fluoride again and it was like glue again all over my teeth.  However, we did the gel and I really liked that better.  I have decided Im not to fond of varnish.  The gel was orange vanilla flavored and I thought it sounded gross but I really liked it.  Well I am signing off on another clinic week.  More to come later.

Monday

Well another monday has come and gone.  Today was a long day. Everything seemed really crazy.  We did sealants and I now have a wonderful sealant on #4.  I learned something new today which is always good.  I did not know that if the sealant is to high you can use a toed instrument and scrape off the excess.  I thought that was pretty cool.  That would have been nice to know when I was placing sealants in the office.  We also had to pass off the polishing PE and get fluoride.  I got the varnish and wow it looked like I had cottage cheese on my teeth.  It was actually a little wierd so I wiped it off.  I couldnt talk with people with that stuff all over my teeth.  Anyways one day down 4 to go.

Wednesday

Today is the lat day of the clinic week! And I would say it went pretty well. I passed off my probe PE HALLELUYAH!!!!  We did polishing and the Air Powder polishing.  Wow not to fond of that.  It was everywhere.  All over my face and our tip kept leaking so my ear was full of water and my neck was soaked.  I was like ok I've had enough of that.  I felt like I was exfoliating my face, actually I still do.  Its stuck like glue.  Well today is my long day so off to radiology.

Monday

Well another Monday has come and gone.  We had a guest speaker today and had a great lunch.  It was another practice day today and I love those they make me feel so much better.  I am done with Costleys test so that is great I am going home to study for classes tomorrow.  We have a head and neck quiz on the parts of the skull so I need to study that.  Till next time

Wednesday

Well I enjoyed today a lot.  I was the operator and I passed off 4 PEs and failed my probe one.  Man that one is hard for me but it was so nice to practice today and put everything together.  We did health history so long ago it was nice to do it again.  Writing in the chart is a little more difficult than I expected. so much to know.  All in all though I loved this day to practice it was good.  Well off to radiology and finish up the week.

A new week

Well today was pretty much a breeze cause I was the patient and just laid there and let Whitnee do her thing and froze.  The weekend was nice and long I hated to see it come to an end so soon.  My kids went to there dads and are coming home today and I am really excited to see them.  I found out when I got to school and their dad called me that my son had stitches last night and they were at the emergency room til late.  Then on the way home he got car sick so the past couple days have been rough for him. Cant wait to give him a love.  Wednesday I will be the operator so that will be nice.  I think once I start doing this routine a little more I will get more comfortable with it so I am looking forward to that and to practicing on Wednesday.  Well until next time.

Wednesday

Today we did instrument classification which was pretty good.  We did dental screenings which I really liked cause I could just get in the mouth and not have to worry about adaptation, angulation that was really relaxing to me.  I get so nervous about poking people and all that it makes me all tense.  I practiced probing, I am still having a hard time with that, guess I know what I'll be practicing all weekend cause I want to get it down.  And that indirect vision is going to be the death of me I swear.  This is all much harder than I ever thought.  Its a long weekend and a short day for me which really makes me happy.  Keeping on! Over and Out

Monday Glorious Monday

Well nice weekend! Too bad it ended so soon.  We did some anterior instrumentation.  That was really awesome to start doing this.  I am not too good at it just yet but Im sure none of us are and we will all get better with time.  Char is back with us.  She was showing us pictures and she said he is growing and getting better.  We are all happy she and the baby are doing better.  Well Wednesday is posterior instrumentation.  I cant believe it is already October.  Time is flying.

Wednesday

Today was a pretty lax day.  We learned a little more in Eaglesoft and got to practice which was really nice.  They extended the probe PE until we can get our new probes but I was going to do mine anyway.  Just as I was getting ready to do it they said it was time to switch.  Dang that was a bummer. Oh well! Well Im looking forward to the weekend maybe I can get some studying done.

Another Monday in Paradise:)

Well every Monday I think Im all refreshed and here comes another load and Im all overwhelmed again.  We did disclosing today and that was funny.  My tongue was all pink and it looked crazy.  We passed off the explorer PE which was really scary I was even shaking.  I really do not like PEs they are so stressful they make me crazy.  This is a short week for us so that is really refreshing to think about.  I think it will keep me going this week. Cya next time.

Wednesday Again

Today in clinic was great.  We identified instruments and it was mostly a practice day.  I love practice and I love practice days.  I am feeling mmore comfortable with fulcruming and just all around feeling a little better.  I think I am getting sick so I am feeling real drowsy today and Its my long day which sucks.  We passed off intraoral PEs and Instructor Hemsly let us label our instrument with bands so we would know which was which.  Well Im eating lunch then going to Radiology. Over and Out

Exploring!

Well I practiced probing on my mom this weekend which was a big help. I am feeling much more comfortable today.  We did exploring today subgingivaly which was pretty scary at first I was so slow cause I wanted to make sure I turned it enough not to poke the gums in the col area.  But I didnt do to bad and I dont feel so crappy leaving today.  All in all today was a little better day.  cya

Another Monday

Well today was another Monday.  Long and trying to get back into the swing of things.  We had our first test for Costleys class this weekend which went better than I had expected.  It was a relief to have that out of the way.  Today I feel I am behind again though.  We did intraoral exam today and passed off health history. that was a long process and a little frustrating it seemed like everyone was confused, even the instructors.  It was also kind of rushed.  I cant wait to get good at this at this moment I feel like it may never come.  Im sure the more I do it the easier it will become.

Wednesdays Clinic

Today we got to probe. It was awesome but I was having a hard time feeling the bottom of the sulcus.  It was a little frustrating but I'm sure I will get the hang of it.  Kristie was my partner again and Im sure shes thinking she thinks she could have a different partner.  I passed off my vital signs PE that wasnt too bad.  We also had a  guest speaker.  It was the former pres of the UDHA.  She was in my group at the student forum so she was already familiar to me.  The topics she spoke about was the same topic we had for our discussion at the forum.  All in all today was good.  Hopefully it will get better.

Today in clinic was a very challenging day for me.  I am having a real hard time with the fulcrum thing.  My pinky wants to go strait out and Lauren said my finger will get strained but I feel like my other fingers cant move very well when I am fulcruming.  I am feeling a little frustrated today. Kind of like I might cry.  Oh well I am gonna try to get through this day then I can go home and cry.  This week has been crazy and it is going to continue to be crazy for the next few days.  I worked with Sam she is so patient with me.  I worked with Kristie also I think I may have poked her a couple of times.  Hopefully she will forgive me.  Well I am hoping next week will go a little better and I can start feeling better.  I think I have said this in every blog but I am always feeling this way.  Cya next time.

A new week

Today was good in clinic.  I was able to pass off the clock postion PE which was real good.  Best wishes to Char who had her baby 3 months early this weekend.  My thoughts are with her and the baby.  We put a mirror and probe and explorer in for sterilization.  I am so excited to start using these tools on people.  The hands on is real proof that I am on my way to becoming a hygienist!!! Yeah!  This is the beginning of a new week so hopefully its a good one.  It will be stressful with 3 tests this week.  Oh well we will all keep on tickin. over and out

Wednesdays Clinic

Well I didnt finish my first post so I am adding to it here.  Wednesday was a lot to remember, sometimes I wonder if I am ever going to remember all this stuff.  Hopefully routine will soon kick in and I will start feeling a little better.  We did the Womens Health Connection Yesterday and it was very awesome. We were able to do some intra and extra oral exams and get a feel.  The second year I was paired with was so sweet and helpful.  It was a very eye opening and rewarding experience.

Another Day in clinic

Well it was a good day in clinic. Wow do I have a lot to remember for the clock position and tooth surfaces.  It is hard to remember where to bee to see the teeth and it is so backwards to look in the mirror.  I have a lot to work on.  I did pass off the set up PE which was a relief but I was really nervous.  Instructor Hafen is really sweet and very helpful  I really appreciate her input.  Well Im gonna eat and head to lab.  Today is my long day so I will be pooped. Cya

another day in clinic

Today is Monday and we got to seat our neighbor in the chair and suck some water. We used our blue boa and the HVE and the small suction. I must say sorry to Sam, I sucked her cheek a few times and her tounge.  The High speed is very awkward to use by yourself.  I am not feeling very well today so remembering my PE to pass off is proving difficult.  We are going to watch a movie if Saliva were Red. I hear it is pretty yucky so that will be good on my ill stomach.  Oh I did it and passed off the PPE PE. Nice!! Well I barely survived the first week so hopefully I can survive the remainder of the semester, and now I am signing off!

Second day of Clinic

Today was good in clinic. I passed off my Eaglesoft PE which wasnt as hard as I was expecting.  We were able to work with suction on the typodont. Way cool!  We learned how to use the blue boa which will be interesting later in the semester. It looks like it could be very useful.  Working on the typodont is way different than working on a real person.  A lot easier you can get him right where you want him.  I cant wait to get that big chunk of gunk off his tooth though.  The lady that invented the blue boa talked to us which was cool to have her show us exactly what she had in mind when she created it.  Well Im off to radiology next. Today is my long day. Cya

First Day of School

Well I was so nervous this morning, I was sick.  All I wanted to do was come to school and get the first day over with.  I guess its the not knowing that was killing me.  So anyways I have officially survived and it wasnt too bad.  Learning the new computer software was a little confusing I will need to practice so I can pass off my PE.  The clinic seemed really hot, maybe it was just my nerves.  I am still nervous and hoping I will be able to juggle everything and not fail miserably.  I hope once I get through the first week things will become more familiar and the tension will ease.  Everyone seems to be real nice and helpfull.  I am excited and looking forward to the rest of the semester. Cya on the next post.
